Preschool Teacher

The preschool teacher is a key member of our educational team responsible for creating a nurturing and enriching learning environment for children. This role entails not only guiding classroom stuff but also fostering strong partnerships with families. Teachers should actively support cultural diversity and understanding among peers and children through classroom materials, discussions, activities, and environment. To be successful a teacher must be flexible, reliable, and accountable. A willingness to be open to feedback regarding teaching and classroom practices is required. Additionally, as a faith-based program all staff incorporate the values and principles of Christianity into everyday educational experiences and a willingness to teach and model these values is required. 

Curriculum Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and learning activities that are engaging, culturally sensitive, and promote holistic child development.
  • Ensure curriculum and activities align with the center’s educational philosophy, guidelines and each child’s individual needs and strengths. 

Teaching and Guidance:

  • Lead developmentally appropriate activities, lessons, and routines that meet the needs of individual children and the classroom.
  • Ensure classroom activities and the environment support the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual development of all children.
  • Interact with children in a positive and engaging manner and support the positive interactions of other classroom staff with children. 

Classroom Management:

  • Create a safe, inclusive,  and stimulating classroom environment that encourages children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
  • Maintain classroom organization and cleanliness, including but not limited to the arrangement of materials, centers, resources, and daily cleaning tasks. 

Family Engagement:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families using open and effective communication.
  • Build partnerships that support children’s learning and development through parent-teacher conferences and sharing regular updates on children’s progress and development in person and through Brightwheel. 

Observation and Assessment:

  • Continuously monitor and document children’s progress and behaviors and share with families during conversations and conferences.
  • Ensure developmental screenings are completed in a timely manner. 

Guidance and Mentorship:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to classroom staff, fostering a collaborative and professional work environment.
  • Offer mentorship, training, and support to new and less experienced teachers. 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, licensing regulations, and center policies for classrooms and playgrounds to ensure the well-being of children and staff.
  • Report issues directly to supervisory staff so they can be addressed in a timely manner.
  • Complete necessary paperwork to document safety concerns, injuries, and incident. 

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with best practices in early childhood education through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Be open to input from outside supports such as the Director, mental health consultants, and the center’s Early Achievers Coach.
  • Maintain all certificates and training required by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. 

Qualifications:

  • Be at least eighteen years old
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete the applicable pre-service requirements, pursuant to WAC 110-300-0105
  • Complete EQEL within 36 months of hire and then 20 hours of continuing education every three years (See WAC 110-300-0107 for details). College coursework can apply
  •  Have and ECE initial certification or equivalent within five years of being hired or promoted into this position
  • Have an ECE short certificate or equivalent within two years of receiving an ECE initial certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to life and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to kneel, bend, squat, and sit on the floor with the children
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
